Our Story

“Mosadi ke thari ya sechaba” is a Setswana idiom that, translated, means a woman is the nation’s carrier and builder.

We work hard at WOSEI TRUST to be such a springboard for the women in our communities who are plagued by thoughts of the next meal, health and general wellbeing of their families yet, often feel so overwhelmed by lack of opportunities for a breakthrough in achieving sustainable levels of economic independence.

WOSEI works to be the bridge that connects people, talent, resources and skills. It’s never been clearer than now that communities and societies cannot solely rely on the government for the massive work of building again before us. We have no option but to collaborate for a new lease on life post- pandemic. Civic bodies like WOSEI TRUST have the potential to not only alleviate hunger but be vehicles that spawn and foster the next level of the creatives to regional and worlds stages. “Many hands make light work” as the common saying goes.

We know the wreck left as a trail of the collective psychosis during COVID 19, with unprecedented records of mental illnesses. Finances dried up, isolation set in and curtailed movement made existing, let alone surviving hard in ways never before imagined but those of us who did are so grateful for the gift of life. Yet, on the same breadth, we stand and are in solidarity with those whose loved ones have passed on.

Creativity need is a kind of spirit, mind and body union for not only the creators but all left inspired in its wake. Arts that draw their subjects and themes from a society’s eco- system, raises an authentic sense of identity, pride and strength of a people. Support and linkages spring up to rise to the challenges of a fast-changing modern world and that, is at the core of our organisation.
